On August 20, 2025, NILA will host a webinar addressing how to file, appeal, and litigate immigration-related requests for records filed with the Department of Homeland Security and its component agencies under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The panel will address FOIA requests for immigration case files (A-Files) filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Nightingale permanent injunction. The panel will also address how to craft other, policy-related FOIA requests. The panelists will also cover whether, when, and what to include in an administrative appeal of a FOIA request. The webinar will conclude with an overview of the basics of filing FOIA complaints in federal court and what to expect after litigation has commenced.
